Services & Procedures

Preventative Dentistry

Preventive dental treatment is one of the most important services we provide. When you come in for regular recalls, we can help keep your mouth healthy and can catch and fix cavities when they are still small and easier and less expensive to repair.

Dr. Hartfield sees patients of all ages, from toddlers to the most senior members of your family. It is best to have your child seen before there are any dental problems rather than wait until they are in pain from a cavity. If there are no cavities or other pressing concerns, we have the freedom to slowly get them used to coming to the dentist. This is especially helpful with very nervous children.

At your child’s first visit, we introduce them to the office and get them used to the dental chair and the equipment we will be using. Many children are curious and, with a little encouragement, do very well with the exam and cleaning on their first appointment. We want children to have a good experience so when they grow up they feel at ease in the dental chair.

For the majority of our adult patients, we recommend checkups and basic cleanings twice a year. If you have had periodontal (gum/bone) problems in the past, we often advise more frequent recalls (3 to 4 times a year) to help keep your mouth healthy and stable.

Cosmetic Dentistry

There are many ways to improve your smile. Sometimes all you may need is a simple filling and other times you may need major work done, including crowns and bridges. Cosmetic dentistry can include white fillings (composites), whitening/bleaching, crowns, veneers, bridges, implants, and more. Dr. Hartfield offers a wide variety of cosmetic services and can sit down with you and help you understand the various options available so you can decide the best treatment for you.

White/Silver Fillings

Dr. Hartfield offers both white (composite) fillings and silver (amalgam) fillings. Some patients prefer the prettier esthetics of the white or tooth-colored composite fillings and other patients prefer the economy of the less expensive silver amalgam fillings. Dr. Hartfield believes it is important to offer options whenever possible so you can be involved in choosing what is best for you.

Tooth Replacement

When you are missing teeth, it can have a big impact on your life. Missing teeth can affect your ability to chew and eat a healthy diet and can also affect your self-esteem and willingness to smile. Teeth can be replaced with implants, dentures, or bridges. If you want to talk about the tooth replacement options available for you, call Dr. Hartfield and she will be happy to help you find the best solution for you.

Pain Relief

If you are having pain in your mouth, the cause may be decay, an infected nerve, gum disease, or a loose tooth. Decay problems can often be fixed with just a simple filling. If the nerve of your tooth is affected, a root canal may be needed to eliminate the infected nerve and then a crown can be placed to restore your tooth to full function. Mild to moderate gum disease is treated in our office by deep cleanings (severe cases are referred to a gum/bone specialist called a periodontist). If your tooth is very loose due to severe bone loss, taking it out may be your only option. If you are in pain, call Dr. Hartfield. If she cannot fully treat your tooth the same day, she will do her best to relieve your pain until more definitive treatment can be done.
